Harefield Infant School

Reception is made up of Oak Class, Chestnut Class and Maple Class.

In Reception we follow the Early Years Developmental Matters and work towards all children reaching the Early Learning Goals for all areas of learning. We encourage independence and problem solving skills setting daily challenges for children to complete independently in their preferred area of learning and most of work is done through play. Phonics is taught daily and children are supported to become confident readers and writers by the end of the year. Throughout the week each child will work with their class teacher to complete guided work in; reading writing and number to embedded skills taught during whole class learning.

Our topics include; Amazing Animals, Things that go Vroom and Under the Sea. We visit the RAF Museum every year to support our learning of different vehicles.

We complete a daily mile run; have weekly dance lessons and PE lessons.

We visit our Forest School site on a fortnightly basis and encourage learning in the outdoors in our fantastic                                                outdoor learning environment.
